In recognition of the team achievements within the Olympic ethos and the extraordinary challenge we are undertaking we visited Westminster on 26th March 2012 to meet the Anglo-American Ministers John Bercow and Baroness D’Souza to raise awareness and support for the tri-4-life USA 2012 Event.
Esther McVey MP hosted a tour of Parliament with the team and invited US Ambassador Louis B. Susman to join us at Westminster.
We will also be heading to America as John Hulley Liverpool Olympic Festival Ambassadors presenting dignitaries in each city we visit with a gift from the Lord Mayor’s office. We are hoping that this ‘Hand of Friendship’ will start with an official send off from the White House in Washington with official links to dignitaries to meet in each city en-route.
The Westminster visit was very worthwhile with a tour of Parliament and the meeting in the Grand Hall with Esther McVey MP. The presentation of the tri-4-life USA 2012 Event to Baroness D’Souza and the Lord Speaker John Burcow in his Westminster private residence was an honour. The team then attended a cycle tour of the Olympic City, were filmed by the BT Olympic promotions film crew, before a fantastic meeting with Lord Coe at the Olympic site.
We would thank everyone for their support to date with the event especially the endorsement from the Lord Speaker that the details, aims and objectives of tri-4-life will be raised in the House of Commons. This will further promote the ‘Model of Good Practice for the European Community’ that Martin Schultz MEP, Leader of the European Democratic Parties identified in the European Parliament following our previous tri-4-life Challenge in 2006.
We are looking forward to further meetings with Hugh Robertson MP Sports and Olympic Minister and the American Ambassador Lois B. Susman to develop further links with the White House in Washington DC and the twelve cities will be linking on our 2800mile Challenge.
